The photographs contained on this page are mostly from the notebooks that Jon completed in the last ten years of his life. It is only a very small selection but it encapsulates the thoughts and ideas behind many of his more recent paintings and his approach to life.

We hope that with time the record will be more expansive.

Jon used sketchbooks prodigiously from an early age but latterly tended to keep notebooks which contained roughly penned sketches, thoughts and reminders. Contained within are clues to how he approached his practice; his painting process as well as the outlines and ideas for works that he would subsequently commit to 'canvas'.

He tended to favour the cheap spiral bound notebooks that he could buy cheaply from ESK in Hastings town centre.
